Solo Trip Abroad has three pillars: Work Mobile. Consume Local. Live Global. Today, we’ll talk about “Consume Local.”
Consume Local emphasizes the following:
Over the past few weeks, I’ve been reducing the products I consume, especially food. Diet is a particular struggle of mine. Besides not really knowing how to cook, I often consume unhealthy food which creates a significant amount of plastic waste. Thankfully, I’ve become increasingly aware of this and am making changes. The biggest so far, is soda!
Keeping reading to learn how I’m reducing waste and making better dietary choices by supporting local businesses, all of which are owned and operated by women!
Soda, and in particular cola soda, comes with a variety of negative health effects. However, I am proud to announce I have not drank any soda since my return from Phnom Penh — 34 days ago! There are times I’m tempted by the ice cold carbonated taste. I’ve been training myself to resist this temptation. I now mentally cringe at how many chemicals, and the amount of sugar, are inside. I remember the painful headaches from stopping — signs of physical addiction withdrawal. As an added benefit, not buying soda diverts funds from the large companies producing them and eliminates my involvement in the transportation pollution. It’s cool to think about I affect the supply chain by not making a purchase.
