It’s been a week since I started doing the morning yoga. I’ve only missed one day because the weather forecast predicted rain. The best part has been the lady who randomly joined me the first day. Since she continued asking if I will come the following day, I saw no reason why I shouldn’t, and now, its just a thing we do.
Over the weekend, a friend who has attended other yoga classes during the week, decided to join us. It’s been great to share my morning session with those who are interested, need a bit of encouragement to get out, and can benefit from my yoga alignment knowledge. Sharing it is priceless, allowing me to hone my instruction skills.
Another side perk is my friend who joined over the weekend continues to ask if she should pay me. I said money is not necessary. Shortly later, the topic of food came up. Suddenly, I’d found a new currency. I expressed my thoughts about paying me in food, such as any left overs or extra food (vegetarian Indian food). It was agreed that if she attends a class, she would bring me some food, or have me over and make some. Jackpot!
This morning after finishing my own session, I ventured to a large yoga class I’d found a few days ago and participated for the remaining time. The people who attend are mostly 50+ and find it hilarious that I not only attend, but that this foreigner knows what he’s doing!
Thankfully, alignment knowledge paid off today as a lady attended who was not there the previous times noticed it. She was really on top of her practice, had great alignment and very flexible (once I completed the yoga teacher training, body alignment and depth of practice have shot up to near the top of my list of desirable attractive qualities). After class, she confirmed my suspicion on her being an instructor. We spoke a short while, exchanged information and hopefully I can attend some of her classes before leaving.
Within the past week of doing yoga regularly, I have seen physical muscular improvement, especially in my back strength and hamstring flexibility. The next challenge is to improve the healthiness of my diet as much as I have increased the frequency with which I do yoga. Getting into the habits will be crucial to the start of my lifestyle change, then I can start finessing the technical details for maximizing my results
